December 7

Le’Nysiah is 12 and is in 7th grade at Milwaukee College Prep. She lives in Milwaukee with her younger sister and brother.

She was born with Sickle Cell disease, a serious disorder in which the body makes sickle-shaped red blood cells. These cells are stiff and sticky and they tend to block blood flow in the blood vessels of the limbs and organs. This often can cause pain, organ damage while also raising the risk for infection. She is under the care of Physicians from the Medical College of Wisconsin and has not had any major issues or anything affecting her organs yet she has missed school including some hospital stays due to pain crises. She has a younger brother and sister and likes Science and Arts and Crafts. The Packers are her favorite team and Aaron Rodgers is her favorite player. Describing the staff of the MACC Fund Center at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin where Le’Nysiah gets treated, her mom Robin simply says “I love them. They are awesome. I really appreciate them.”
