December 11

Kaila is 12 and is in 7th grade at St. Marcus School in Milwaukee. She was diagnosed in 2015 with Aplastic anemia, a rare blood disorder. She had a bone marrow transplant in August, 2016

Her mother also had Aplastic anemia as a young child and the bone marrow transplant she received was the first transplant performed by Dr. Dave Margolis years ago while training under Drs. Camitta and Casper. Ironically, Dr. Margolis, a Medical College of Wisconsin physician, is also Kaila’s physician. To add to the coincidence, Kaila’s bone marrow donor was her Uncle Andre who was also the donor for his sister, Kaila’s mom, years earlier. Kaila likes the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis is her favorite player. She likes Art and Math and her hobbies are dancing, drawing, volleyball and basketball. She has done well after the transplant leading her mom to say about her caregivers in the MACC Fund Center at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin “Oh my, I just love them, love them, love them!”
